Put simply, this place is phenomenal. Please do not miss out on this experience if you are in Kawagoe. It is a rare occurrence for me to be drawn to a place simply by glancing at it's exterior. But before I knew it, I found myself walking towards the entrance. When I walked inside, it was like stepping into a place frozen between times. The modernity and antiquity of the locale makes you feel as if you are observing both the past and the future from your place at the table. This is particularly heightened by the view you have of outside. Apart from people in normal attire, you will also be greeted by people in yukatas and kimonos. The past and the future parade before you both inside and outside the tea salon. They have a small, delicately thought out menu. I recommend trying the seasonal set. The wagashi (Japanese sweets) change every two weeks, so if you fall in love with this place like I did, there is always something to look forward to. Also, don't be afraid to ask for a tea recommendation. You can choose from three, but there is always one that pairs best with your order and no one knows that best than the owner. Speaking of the owner, his passion for tea is palpable and even contagious. His kindness and attention definitely helped my experience be an unforgettable one. I ordered the season set and was presented with an absolutely lovely arrangement. Visually, my favorite was the wagashi that had little fish. It brought to mind the goldfish scooping game found at summer matsuris. And that's what made it so special. They were able to make you feel the wonders of summer through a single wagashi. In terms of flavors, I took a great liking to the second wagashi that was blueberry flavored with a bit of cream on the inside. Sweet, flavorful, and ever so delicate. Of course, the iced green tea was the perfect accompaniment to all the flavors that were engaging my palate. Now, I have never once mentioned chairs in any of my reviews, but it would be remiss to not mention them in this one. I don't know what it was, but those were the most comfortable chairs I have ever sat on in a tea place. However, the real magic is that while it made you relaxed, it also put you in a sitting position that drew your whole body's attention to the delicacies in front of you. All of your senses are engaged and focused making for a unique experience. I cannot wait to go back and I honestly hope everyone has a chance to visit this magical tea salon.

1901 TEA SALON is a beautifully restored 120-year-old Japanese storehouse turned into a cozy tea salon. The tea here is exceptional – rich, aromatic, and truly refined. Even as a local, I was impressed by the depth of flavor. English menus are available, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Their seasonal Japanese sweets are beautifully presented and pair perfectly with the tea. A perfect spot to relax and enjoy authentic Japanese culture.

A lovely escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy Kawagoe Streets. The vibes of the old style Japanese building are excellent. The tea was plentiful and relaxing. The wagashi perfectly displayed. All at a very reasonable price. The vibe of the place is quiet and relaxed. Recommend as a spot to come and relax or perhaps for a chill date.
